Are you an advocate? A knock-on-doors campaigner? Someone who pulls others aside at a party to rave about the newest, the latest?
As a PR person, I’ve been an advocate for others – and their interests – for nearly as long as I can remember. Managing perceptions…crafting key messages…influencing the right audience – it’s all in a day’s work.
Personally, I’ve never been too interested in following politics or far-reaching causes. I skipped all opportunities to join the debate team. I’m more likely to yell out and wave a pompom for a sports figure than a candidate. But all that may be changing. Maybe it’s maturity…or a heightened level of involvement in my community. Maybe I’m simply moving a bit one direction or the other from center on issues and topics I might have ignored a few months ago. Or, I’m discovering a greater sense of reward from speaking out, sharing my opinion, becoming involved, helping others.
Over the next few months, there will be no shortage of conversations to join. Pick a local proposition, or a candidate for our Oval Office. Learn about issues that affect your neighborhood, your children, your business, and form an opinion pro or con.
E-mail me a list of your hot buttons. How you’re working for change. Who is deserving of your vote…and why. Check back behind “My Pursuits” to learn more about the issues, causes, activities and people who have me a little stirred up. Let’s make an impact this quarter. Let’s be advocates for the important things in our lives.
